BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – Civic Match, a talent matching program by Work for America that connects outgoing federal workers to state and local government jobs, is expanding to include nonprofit workers impacted by federal grant cuts. Starting today, more than 20,000 laid-off nonprofit employees will be eligible to join Civic Match and access state and local government opportunities across 226 cities and 48 states, as well as a series of free events and job seeker resources.
Nonprofit employees affected by federal grant cuts are experts across a variety of fields with experience in the very jobs that state and local governments are hiring for, including project and program managers, public health workers, and communications professionals, to name a few. This eligibility expansion provides a unique opportunity for hiring managers to bring on top, mission-driven talent to their state and local government teams.
“Thousands of nonprofit workers are suddenly facing job loss through no fault of their own - many with skills that state and local governments urgently need,” said Caitlin Lewis, Executive Director of Work for America. “This expansion is about making sure that expertise doesn’t go to waste.”
“We’re excited to welcome this new community. More people on the platform makes it a richer ecosystem and ultimately more valuable to everyone,” said Josh Gee, VP of Civic Match.
This expansion reflects Civic Match’s commitment to strengthening the public sector, ensuring better services and a stronger America. As federal funding shifts leave experienced federal government and nonprofit workers seeking their next role, Civic Match offers a timely, strategic solution to ensure that their skills continue to serve the public good across state and local governments nationwide.

About Civic Match
Civic Match is a national talent platform launched in November 2024 by the nonpartisan nonprofit Work for America to keep great public servants in public service. Originally created as a simple Google Form to support displaced federal appointees after the 2024 election, it has since evolved into a robust infrastructure addressing one of the most urgent issues in government today: the public sector staffing crisis. The platform provides free tools and services to connect experienced civic talent with hard-to-fill roles in state and local government - including a national resume bank and virtual and in-person hiring events. Since its launch, Civic Match has grown rapidly: nearly 10,000 federal workers from all 50 states have joined the platform, half with more than a decade of public sector experience. Civic Match is already working with over 200 state and local governments - including at the gubernatorial and mayoral level - to fast-track hiring and address staffing shortages. The platform has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, CBS News, CNN, Bloomberg, Politico, ABC News, and The Cut for its innovative solution to the federal workforce crisis.
