Brooklyn, N.Y. — Work for America today announced the appointment of Josh Gee as the new Vice President of Civic Match, a transformative initiative helping local governments connect with top public sector talent amid a growing state and local staffing crisis.

“Josh is exactly the kind of leader Civic Match needs for this next chapter,” said Caitlin Lewis, Executive Director of Work for America. “He’s built government technology that millions of people rely on, and now he’s bringing that same energy and expertise to help evolve Civic Match from a scrappy rapid-response effort into a scalable, user-centered platform that can truly transform how local governments find and hire great people.”

Josh brings a wealth of experience at the intersection of public service, civic technology, and product innovation. He created the Digital Service team at New York City’s MTA, introducing real-time station information and launching award-winning tools like the live subway map. In Boston, he helped residents save more than 10,000 hours by digitizing paper-based city services. He’s also led product development at top agencies such as Speedlane and Siberia. Beyond his professional work, Josh is an active volunteer in political organizing and writes a popular food and culture newsletter, Snack Cart.

"I'm thrilled to join Civic Match at a moment when the country urgently needs new ways to connect public servants with meaningful work," said Josh Gee. "With my background building people-first digital services, I’m excited to help grow Civic Match into a platform that supports and uplifts those who have devoted their careers to serving others."

About Civic Match

Civic Match is a national talent platform launched in November 2024 by the nonpartisan nonprofit Work for America to keep great public servants in public service. Originally created as a simple Google Form to support displaced federal appointees after the 2024 election, it has since evolved into a robust infrastructure addressing one of the most urgent issues in government today: the public sector talent gap. The platform provides free tools and services to connect experienced civic talent with hard-to-fill roles in state and local government—including a national resume bank and  virtual and in-person hiring events, with plans underway to roll out a new candidate portal and explore AI-powered job matching soon.—Since its launch, Civic Match has grown rapidly: over 9,000 federal workers from all 50 states have joined the platform, nearly half with more than a decade of public sector experience. Civic Match is already working with over 200 state and local governments—including at the gubernatorial and mayoral level—to fast-track hiring and address staffing shortages. As federal workforce disruption continues, Civic Match has seen a 20x surge in demand since January 2025. The platform has been featured in The New York TimesThe Wall Street JournalNPR, CBS NewsCNN, BloombergPoliticoABC News, and The Cut for its innovative solution to the federal workforce crisis.
